Harriet Burns was a member of the Guildhall Opera School where she graduated with

Distinction on the Artist Diploma programme. She is the recipient of numerous awards

including 2nd prize at the 2019 Wigmore Hall/Independent Opera International Song

Competition, the compulsory Song Prize and Recital Prize at the 2019 International Vocal

Competition in 's-Hertogenbosch, 1st prize at the 2019 Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards,

winner of the 2018 Oxford Lieder Young Artists Platform, the 2017 Paul Hamburger prize

for Lieder and the 2017 Franz-Schubert-Institut Competition. She is a Samling Artist,

Oxford Lieder Young Artist, and a Britten-Pears Young Artist.

In recitals Harriet has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Oxford Lieder Festival, International Lied Festival Zeist, the Ryedale Festival, de Singel and the Chiltern Arts Festival with artists including Imogen Cooper, James Baillieu, Christopher Glynn, Graham Johnson, Joseph Middleton and Ian Tindale. Future song recitals include Gounod and Georgina with John Mark Ainsley, Malcolm Martineau and Petroc Trelawny at the Wigmore Hall devised by Henrietta Bredin.

Recent operatic roles have included Sister Grace (The Angel Esmeralda, Lliam Paterson),

Nerina (La Fedeltà premiata, Haydn), and Aminta (Aminta e Fillide, Handel) with Guildhall

Opera School. This summer Harriet will be covering the role of Oriana in Handel’s

Amadigi at Garsington Opera.

Harriet is a member of the vocal faculty at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a sight-singing tutor to the undergraduate vocal department students, and is the vocal coach to the choristers of St Mary Merton.
