Helen Smee

Helen is a conductor, workshop leader and organist working regularly with choirs and music organisations of all shapes and sizes. Born in London, Helen holds degrees from the University of Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied Choral Conducting with Patrick Russill. She is currently Director of Frideswide Voices, the girls’ choir of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, and Director of Music at Worcester College Oxford.

Helen also works regularly as an assistant conductor with the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, and is a co-founder, and now Artistic Director, of Voices of London, a week-long festival of choral music held each June. Passionate about widening access to music and the performing arts

for young people, she is in demand as a workshop leader and choral advisor with a wide range range of arts organisations. In 2018 she won the Members’ Award from Action for Children’s Arts in recognition of her outreach work with young people, and in 2021 was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
