Jonathan Jarvis is a collaborative pianist, MD, vocal coach and teacher. He read Music at the University of Huddersfield, where he graduated with a first class honours degree and was awarded the Rodwell Prize for piano. He went on to study a Masters in piano accompaniment at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since graduating, he has been appointed Staff Pianist, Vocal Coach for the acting course, and MD for the American Songbook Project. Jonathan was announced as a Britten-Pears Young Artist in 2020.
In musical theatre, Jonathan is an MD and Vocal Coach at the Leicester College of Performing Arts (LCPA). He is in demand as a keyboard player in pit bands, most recently playing for Avenue Q, The Addams Family and Kinky Boots. Jonathan has also recorded a commission for Spotify of the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles video game series, and has appeared as a tenor on two choral recording projects.
Jonathan is a keen improviser, and is part of ‘Ad-lib’ ensemble, a group formed to perform and explore classical improvisation. With Ad-lib, he performed an entirely improvised recital at the inaugural Hub for Artistic Research in Performance conference at the Royal Northern College of Music. In 2024 he will take part in a series of research workshops and concerts, combining cutting-edge deep learning technology with swarm intelligence at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
Jonathan regularly accompanies choirs and is in demand as a pianist and repetiteur, alongside his regular teaching in private practice and for the Loughborough Schools Foundation.
